However, here's the main difference to me: The Spurs do not have a lockdown defender in Bruce Bowen. Richard Jefferson is a fine player, but doesn't hold a candle to Bowen defensively.
Ginobili saved the game when he drew that Charge on Carmelo at the end. But Bowen would have never even let Anthony get in position to score. In the playoffs, with guys like Kobe Bryant staring you down, that could be a major problem.
Jefferson isn't the kind of defender that Bowen was, but he's much more versatile at the offensive end of the floor. Bowen could hit his 3-pointer from the corner, and that was pretty much his whole offense. Jefferson can hit from outside, but he's also capable of driving the lane and drawing a foul or getting an easy shot. That's why the Spurs have changed their whole philosopy. They no longer rely on great defense and just enough offense to win. This year they're running and scoring a lot more.
