Did Zimmer Show No Emotion?
In spite of the rising Zimmer NexGen Knee Replacement Recall, Zimmer still seemed to be as cold as ice. First, they lost a high profile consultant a few years after they first marketed Zimmer NexGen CR-Flex. Second, some orthopaedic surgeon’s trust were gone into waste after knowing that the said device has failed. Third, Zimmer’s company profile was challenged by a certain study last March 2010 at the annual conference of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Fourth, they kept on blaming the orthopaedic surgeon’s surgical techniques used in implanting the knee as their defense to the study. Fifth, two MIS components were linked to Zimmer’s sudden and urgent device correction sent to the surgeons. Lastly, a new study with emphasis on the 128 observed patients between year 1975 and 1989 by Dr. John Meding has challenged Zimmer Holdings. Dr. Meding’s study showed that those patients were still living free from pain after their knee replacement surgery. And with that, Dr. Meding concludes that knee replacement surgeries may not only last for 15 years but over 20 years.
Zimmer never learned. They keep their stand that their device has nothing to do with the loosening of the knee of their patients and the revisions of their implanted knee replacement device. Zimmer Holdings entered the world of market and opened some accounts since 1926. They started to improve by selling some aluminum-lined splints. Later, they offered 100,000 products to some selected countries. Zimmer began obtaining huge profits every year with $4 billion. But, they are not exempted in any probable litigation. The big problem of the Zimmer NexGen CR-Flex device is not a reason for them to escape from any litigation, hence dangerous to the patient’s health. Other than that, patients are putting their trust to the knee-replacement device and because they need to have it. Zimmer can never stop their patients to avail their designs unless they themselves will withdraw everything in the market. The main purpose of the patient in getting such device is to bring back their normal life style. Zimmer has been so cold to this issue.
