Alyeska Resort-Some of The Best Skiing In The World

Alyeska Resort

Alyeska Resort is a favored resort for family ski vacations. Alyeska offers 2,500 vertical feet of terrain. Ideally the Alyeska Resort serves as the base camp for adventures on the Kenai Peninsula before or after your Alaskan cruise or as a part of your Alaska FIT. Girdwood has evolved from a gold mining town into Alaska's only year-round resort community. Not many other people have the same idea, despite the fact that the Alyeska Resort gets about 782 inches of snowfall annually. Yet snow sport lovers from the lower 48 states perceive Girdwood Alaska to be a place characterized by extreme terrain, sub zero temperatures and perpetual darkness.

Night time skiing is allowed, which makes your ski experience more adventurous and thrilling. You will see snow capped mountains, hanging glaciers, and of course, the famous Northern Lights. This resort is ranked number nine of the top twenty-five killer ski trips by Skiing Magazine.

This summer Alyeska Resort will embark on an estimated $4.5 million mountain upgrade to include snowmaking extension from the bottom of the mountain to the top of the tram. New snowmaking will allow Alyeska Resort to open the entire mountain by Thanksgiving. Alyeska Resort, nestled within Girdwood (population 2,000) and Chugach National Forest, can’t boast the most skier visits per year. And if you stay at the five-year-old Alyeska Prince Hotel, there’s a good chance the majority of the halls will be empty—and that’s precisely the reason to go…well that and the heady amount of snow that falls on the resort. Each unit will accommodate particular tenants based on recruitment programs and managed by the Housing Manager and Human Resources department at Alyeska Resort. Employment with Alyeska Resort does not guarantee housing in our facilities.

The Alyeska Prince Hotel is the place to stay! Here you will enjoy elegant rooms and fine dining. Nightly entertainment is available as well. There are other nightlife spots in the area as well, that are not associated with the Hotel.

If tubing interests you, then visiting the Glacier Tubing Park is an absolute must! Featuring two lanes of terrain and a surface lift, everyone in the family will enjoy spending time at the tubing park. The Alyeska Terrain Park is a must for snowboarding enthusiasts. Other winter activities that can be enjoyed in and around the Alyeska Resort include flight seeing, helisking, ocean cruising tours, dog sledding, ice climbing, back country skiing, mountaineering, and polar bear viewing.

The Alyeska Resort in stunning Alaska is already offering season passes for the upcoming winter ski season, allowing visitors to experience everything that only the mountains of Alaska have to offer avid snowboarders and skiers. Numerous pass options are available for children, adults, senior citizens, families, entire seasons, special dates and engagements, ten-day passes, military passes and business passes as well. Though 35 miles south of Anchorage, Alyeska Resort is an easy drive with unlimited picture stops along the scenic Seward Highway, which has an All American Highway designation. Alyeska Resort, located 40 miles south of Anchorage, is Alaska's premier year-round resort. The 1,400 acres of terrain with 2,500 feet of vertical rise, is serviced by nine lifts including a 60-passenger aerial tramway, and a high-speed bubble lift.

The Alyeska Resort's glass enclosed 60-passenger aerial tramway attracts visitors from all over the region. It is open year round for those who enjoy the view from the top of Mount Alyeska, hike the numerous trails or dine at two restaurants (one casual, one fancy). No matter what you are looking for, the unique Alaska vacation, a ski vacation or both, you will find it here at Alyeska Resort.

What are some LGBT national/world event days?

I want to know what are some days in the LGBT community that are either widely known or maybe not so widely known.

I know the following:

National Coming Out Day - Oct. 11th
National Freedom To Marry Day - Feb. 12th
World AIDS Day - Dec. 1st

I know there is Matthew Shepard Day, but I don't know when it is.

If you have any days (please tell me when in the year they fall) and why it pertains to LGBT (if it's not something completely obvious) please reply! Thanks!
I understand that AIDS is not solely a gay disease, but it is a disease that should be stressed in ANY community. I'm looking for days to plan events on, and AIDS day can be worked with statistics of how many LGBT are affected, straight, black, white, etc. etc. I listed it because it does still affect LGBT even though it's not exclusive.

There's also the Day of Silence (takes place in April, this year the 16th) and Transgender Day of Remembrance (Nov. 20).

EDIT: Here's a page with a few more: http://www.therainbowbabies.com/Holidays.html
